Majestic Pacific Northwest Mountains 6
Blue Lake in Washington's North Cascade Mountains: its water really is blue! This glacial cirque lake (elevation 6250 feet) is surrounded by 7700-foot sheer granite cliffs. The lake water is so clear that you can see the rocks and logs on the lake bottom—and if you look closely, you'll see one of many small fish that were leaping out of the water as I watched!
